Concert — Luminico (Mexico) Wed, Nov 23. 2011 LUMINíCO (MEXICO) - TOUR DE FORCE 2011 Concert performance for flutes, electronics, audio processing and real time video – Alejandro Escuer flutes - Rodrigo Sigal electroacoustic music, real time sound manipulation and sound difussion - José Luis García Nava real time video and visuals. LUMINICO´s presentations offer a unique insight into contemporary reality through sound and visual metaphors that immerse the viewer in an artistic experience that emotionally connects consciousness with perception, intuition with rationality, as if it was an introspective personal experience designed for each ´listener-viewer´, through audio and visual processes that incorporate the use of new technologies with live performance.

Concert — Trevor Wishart's Encounters in the Republic of Heaven (... all the colours of speech ... ) Wed, Jan 18. 2012 Encounters is an 8-channel sound-surround piece based on speaking voices recorded in the North East of England where Trevor Wishart was A.C.E. Composer-in-Residence 2006-2009, based at the University of Durham. The piece is constructed in 4 Acts of approximately 20 minutes each, combining portraits of individual speakers (accompanied by sounds and imaginary instruments derived from the voices themselves) with computer animation of the entire community of voices - speech that waltzes, speech that locks in harmony, clouds of speech that circle the audience, culminating with speech that transforms into song. The piece was finally completed on January 1st 2011.

Seminar: Oded Ben-Tal Wed, Feb 8. 2012 Music, Technology & Innovation Research Centre & Institute of Creative Technologies, De Montfort University, Leicester - joint seminar Oded Ben-Tal (Kingston University) From algorithmic composition to live electronics, or an emerging digital improviser In this talk I will describe my mixed (acoustic + electronic) compositions. Starting from pieces with fixed tape parts generated algorithmically but focusing mostly on the implementation of simple machine listening strategies for live, interactive work. I will be asking at what point (if at all) does this become an improvising system. |

Ranging from the playful and sensuous to the edgy and experimental, these artists and their works are redefining the potentials of sound and image in the 21st century. Curated by Bret Battey and presented by the Music, Technology and Innovation Research Centre at DMU.
